Brönnimann, Baldur
Born in 1968 in Basel, he studied at the Music Academy Basel and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he taught conducting after his graduation. He has worked with composers such as John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, Harrison Birtwistle, Unsuk Chin, Helmut Lachenmann, Magnus Lindberg, and Georg Friedrich Haas. He has conducted concerts at festivals such as the BBC Proms, Wien Modern, Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center, as well as the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt. He has led performances of major works by György Ligeti, Fausto Romitelli, Pierre Boulez, Claude Vivier, and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. He conducts the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, and is the principal conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta.
In recent years he has appeared with Oslo Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, Vienna Radio Symphony, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Danish National Symphony, WDR Symphony, Aurora, and Munich Chamber Orchestra. He regularly conducts Klangforum Wien, both in Vienna and on its tours worldwide.
