Falk, Holger

Versatility, colourfulness and immediacy of expression make Holger Falk one of the most sought-after interpreters of contemporary music for the opera stage. He has premiered works by Peter Eötvös, Beat Furrer, Georges Aperghis, Michael Wertmüller, Benoît Mernier, Miroslav Srnka, Vladimir Tarnopolski, Jan Müller-Wieland, and Steffen Schleiermacher and has also sung roles ranging from Monteverdi’s Orfeo to Wolfgang Rihm’s great operas.

Invitations have taken him to the Teatro Real in Madrid, Bavarian State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Frankfurt Opera, and many other opera houses. He is guest at many concert halls and festivals, such as Gewandhaus Leipzig, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Palais des Beaux-Arts Bruxelles, Boston Early Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, and Schwetzinger Festival.

Holger Falk teamed up with pianist Alessandro Zuppardo to become the first singer to present a complete recording of all 115 Mélodies for male voice by Francis Poulenc. This was followed by a complete recording of Erik Satie’s Mélodies and chansons together with Steffen Schleiermacher on the piano. Along with him, Falk has also released recordings of Wolfgang Rihm’s song cycles and Josef Matthias Hauer’s Hölderlin-Vertonungen (all released on MDG).

In 2015 the Hugo Wolf Foundation and the German Federal Cultural Foundation invited Holger Falk and Steffen Schleiermacher to present the “Sind noch Lieder zu singen” festival, exploring the future of German song.

In 2016 Holger Falk was awarded with the prestigious Echo Klassik Award in the section Lied for his complete recording of Satie’s Mélodies
