Habela, Marcin
Singer (baritone). He graduated from the Paris Conservatoire; his teachers have included Gary Magby, Sergei Leiferkus, and Régine Crespin. His repertoire comprises more than 40 leading baritone roles at venues such as Théâtre du Châtelet, Salle Pleyel and Cité de la Musique in Paris, Victoria Hall in Geneva, La Monnaie in Brussels, opera houses in Lyon, Montpellier, Marseilles, Berlin, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Festival Radio-France, Chorégies d’Orange, and the Maifestspielen-Wiesbaden. He has worked with conductors such as Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, Evelino Pidò, Marco Guidarini, and Michel Corboz. A great enthusiast of contemporary vocal music, Marcin Habela performs compositions by Benjamin Britten, Aribert Reimann, Hans Werner Henze, Gershon Kingsley, as well as chamber music, including works specially composed for him by Laurent Martin, Jean-Philippe Bauermeister, Michel Decoust, Armando Ghidoni, and others. He has recorded notably for Radio France, Espace 2, TSR, EMI, RAI, SBB, and Decca. He is the winner of numerous international awards, including the Audience Award for his interpretation of Raoul Wallenberg in the world premiere of Kunze and Kingsley’s Raoul at the Opera Competition and Festival with Mezzo TV (2008).
