BASKAK+POPP

is a duo that improvises with voice and electronics. Baskak (Antoni Beksiak) uses extended vocal techniques, notably mirroring electronic sounds with his voice. Constantin Popp, using his own SuperCollider software, modifies microphone signal, uniting that pneumatic vocal synthesizer with electronics and famously spreading it into infinite plans and spaces.

I Put A Spell On You is an evolving, through-composed improvisation whose title is borrowed from a renowned Jay Hawkins song in honour of its performer, Diamanda Galás; another work from the latter’s repertoire will be sung at the concert. The original version was composed in Dresden and Frankfurt in 2011–12; in 2013, baskak+popp worked together in a Manchester studio on new elements of the programme and material for the CD. Constantin Popp also participated on several occasions in Turning Sounds, an event cycle curated by Baskak, notably in 2011 at the Łódź Philharmonic where he performed a new commission by Zbigniew Karkowski, Encumbrance for vocal ensemble and electronics.
