SCENATET

is recognized as one of the most innovative and experimental ensembles for music and art in Denmark. SCENATET moves in the crossover field between music, drama, and happenings towards areas of a yet undefined genre.
SCENATET has a close and collaborative relation with the younger generation of Danish composers, as well as a strong commitment to the international avant-garde repertoire.
SCENATET is an ensemble that designs every concert individually. It sees itself as a creator of conceptual art works and processes of discovery, in which music is just one part. In fact SCENATET is not a traditional ensemble at all, but rather a multifaceted and unique unit within the field of the contemporary arts—and neither does the ensemble really give traditional concerts.
Founded in 2008 by artistic director Anna Berit Asp Christensen, SCENATET performs for a broad and diverse audience, rarely performing in the same place or context twice. SCENATET has held events in shopping malls and backyards, major festivals and experimental venues, and the preoccupation with “everyday spaces” to which they bring their art makes SCENATET performances into theatrical installations just as much as concert productions. Performing in the homes of well-known artists and using their private homes as scenography is one example of SCENATET’s concert formats. Doing “backyard operas” in Copenhagen where music and plot are tailored individually to the backyard chosen is another.
But what does “scenatet” mean? It is a Danish word puzzle mixing the two words for “senate” and “stage”—meet us at our performances and find out what we’re all about! From 2012 to 2014 SCENATET is a part of New Music: New Audiences (NewAud).
