Koczur, Maciej

Born in Bochnia, Poland in 1989, he graduated in conducting from Cracow’s Music Academy in the class of Paweł Przytocki. He is now a PhD student at the same Academy. In 2012 he was the youngest participant of the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition.
In 2008–13, Maciej Koczur conducted the Archetti Chamber Orchestra, winning three international awards at the Music Impressions in Bydgoszcz (2009, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award), Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna (2010, 3rd Prize and honourable mention in the category of string orchestras), and the European Music Festival for Young People in Neerpelt, Belgium (2011, 1st Prize in the category of string and symphony orchestras). In March 2013, Maciej Koczur toured Sweden with Archetti and soloists (John Hudson of English National Opera and pianist Carl Petersson), conducting concerts in Västerås, Helsingborg, Ystad, Lund, Kristianstad, and Ljungby.
He initiated, created, and coperformed a cycle of educational concerts for children and teenagers. So far he has held more than 50 such concerts in philharmonic halls, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. He has collaborated with artists such as Kaja Danczowska, Morten Zeuthen, Marek Nosal and Marek Andrysek. For two years he has worked closely with Marek Chołoniewski, conducting the ElektroNova Orchestra and Vibrator Ensemble.
In order to grasp the specific features of performance on different instruments, he has been learning to play such orchestral instruments as the violin, horn, oboe and trumpet. At present, he is also training to play the alto saxophone.
In the 2013–14 season, Maciej Koczur was conductor-in-residence at the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź.
